What you can do about job losses

Every day brings new announcements of job cuts and closures. This is a volatile situation and individuals can make a difference.

A couple of people taking a stand can help turn the general mood from despair into one of confidence and militancy.

Here are a few demands you can make and steps you can take to fight job losses or support workers who have been sacked:

•Strike the moment that job cuts are announced. As sacked BMW worker Doug Foreshew from Cowley argues in our front page story, it’s vital not to waste anger.
•Follow the example of Waterford Crystal workers in Ireland and occupy. They look set to save their jobs by taking that action. Managers don’t care about workers – but they do care about plant, stock and machinery.
•Get out and build physical and financial support in local workplaces and in the community. Organise a demonstration to rally support.
